The 992-generation Porsche 911 GT3 is a world-beating super sports car, but in Porsche’s quest to make the latest GT3 even better on the race track, the GT3’s useability as a road car has decreased.

We’ve had feedback from many 992 GT3 owners all over the world reporting that they find the suspension on the 992-generation GT3 too harsh for road-use. This isn’t unexpected, given the greater emphasis placed by Porsche on the on-track performance of the 992 GT3. Unfortunately as a result, the 992 GT3 has lost the ability of its predecessors of being passable for road use whilst still being focused enough for track driving. This is particularly present on the 992 GT3 Touring – a car designed with an emphasis on road driving – as it suffers from the same overly-stiff setup as seen on the standard wing-bearing GT3, which compromises the GT3 Touring’s intended usage. For a 911 GT3 Touring, this makes the ride feel even stiffer as the lack of a rear wing means there are no significant aerodynamic loads helping to compress the suspension.

In light of this, we made the decision to go ahead and see what we could do to solve this issue.

We soon got our hands on a 992 GT3 and began our design process. The brief was to create a product that would enable us to replace the 992 GT3’s OEM progressive rate springs with a linear racing spring with a spring rate of our own choosing. After a comprehensive design process, we finalised the design of our kit that is composed of six billet aluminium spring adaptors and four Eibach linear rate springs. Our in-house team of engineers were able to seamlessly design and prototype the kit before signing it off, and handing the design over to our manufacturing team, who put the kit into production using our CNC machines.

When deciding the spring rates, it was important to choose a spring rate that emphasised ride comfort and refinement without compromising the GT3’s handling. The spring rates we chose are 12% softer at the front and 15% softer at the rear, helping to give the 992 GT3 a much more compliant ride, particularly over imperfections in the road at speeds under 50mph, where the OEM dampers can be overly-aggressive when controlling the movement of the springs.

The kit has been designed to be as OEM+ as possible with spring seats that are of the same quality as the OEM units on the shocks as standard. The Suspension Secrets Porsche 992 GT3 Soft Spring Conversion Kit is a fully-reversible upgrade and it does not affect ride heights or cornering performance.

You may even find that street and fast road handling is improved thanks to the additional compliance and grip offered by the softer springs.
